At St Mary's we teach  the content of national curriculum through a range of exciting topics. Click on the link to read more about the National Curriculum.

At St Mary's our curriculum is tuned to the children's needs and interests, using child friendly topics which are chosen to engage and inspire young minds. We operate a three year rolling programme of topics during which the whole school participates in a rich diet of exciting activities. Topics are enhanced by themed days, special lunches, visits and visitors. Pupils become immersed in the topics, and develop new skills and knowledge.

The School uses the 'Oxford Reading Tree' as the main reading scheme in the school and phonics are taught through the 'Read, Write, Inc.' scheme.

If you would like more information on our curriculum please phone the school and ask to speak to the headteacher, Mrs Anne Schwodler.

Our topics for 2015/16 are

  • Autumn Term
    • Term 1 – Food, Glorious Food
    • Term 2 – On a Dark, Dark Night
  • Spring Term
    • Term 3 – Space
    • Term 4 – Superheroes
  • Summer Term
    • Terms 5 and 6 – Rainforest

The way we use our topics to cover the requirements of the National Curriculum varies slightly from year to year. At the beginning of each long term every year group sends out a newsletter detailing what will be covered in all subjects. By clicking on the links below you can see what we will be covering this term and how we addressed the requirements of the curriculum in the spring and summer terms last year.

Three times a year each class produces a curriculum newsletter which tells parents and carers about the subjects that will be covered during the two terms. There is a seperate page called Curiculum Newsletters where you can find the newsletters from each year group.
